Prone to Mischief

Band promo hi-res photo

We are, Prone to Mischief, an activist, rabble rousing street and parade band with something to say!!! We are committed to Social Justice and taking our loud and proud music to the street (and indoor venues when it’s too cold)! We celebrate our strength in the diversity of our members and in the styles of our songs which come from all over the world… We are very serious about our RESISTANCE message, but we love what we're doing and are having a blast!

What is your band’s mission?

To bring messages through music. To be available when called for at activist events. To work with local Arts Councils to keep music alive and well. To keep the brass band movement ever-present. To play and bring music to the streets. To be something other guitars and amplifiers! To highlight tunes of years gone by. To expose corporate greed and other social injustices. To Unite people of all back grounds and races, ages, religions and orientations. To educate children about racism and all other forms of discrimination.

Does your band consider itself an activist street band?

Yes

What do you think your band could contribute to a festival of activist street bands?

We are mostly older. I think this is key. We will bring tunes of yesteryear, traversing from there to pop culture. Yet we are intergenerational - from 77 year old to a 24 year old, brought together by music. We are sousaphone heavy - kind of a section of it's own. We are willing to combine with other bands to do the Friday events. We are on a roll!

What activities have you participated in recently to support your community or causes that you care about?

Noho Pride Parade
MLK Day
Inclusion Groups at local schools
Women's March
Arts Council Events
Several Nursing Home Events - (dementia programs)
Puerto Rican Parade (upcoming)
All Souls Parade (upcoming)

In what ways do you support diversity in your band?

We actively recruit people of color/cultures/religions. We play a variety of tunes from other cultures/countries. Gender orientation does not matter. We are welcoming. We offer improv classes on a sliding scale so all can partake.

What proportion of gigs for the band are commercial gigs?

20
