Satin Sirens

Band promo hi-res photo

Satin Sirens was created by Amber Hayes and Eleanor Clayton. Amber and Eleanor have both had a long history in music and dance, both are so passionate about the history of where this music comes from and try to incorporate that history and diversity in all of their performances. Satin Sirens plays Hot Jazz, Gypsy Jazz, Old-Time Blues, and everything in between. Amber has been a singer for the majority of her life appearing in multiple Seattle and New Orleans bands, and has her previous CD played in multiple bars in New Orleans. Amber has also been a Swing Dancer since the age of 17. Alternately, Eleanor has been a Ballet and Jazz dancer for the majority of her life. She started working on jazz guitar in just the last few years and has already surpassed most of the musicians she knows who have been playing for years. Eleanor plays all guitar solos that appear on their album. A few months after they started Satin Sirens, they brought in Katrina Kujawa who has been playing upright bass only a little over a year and already killin' it! Katrina also has her roots in music and dance, being a music teacher for children and a swing dancer for many years. Satin Sirens has many horn players that join in the fun including a trombone, saxophone, trumpet and clarinet. You wont we able to hold back from dancing when you hear this party band!

What is your band’s mission?

Our biggest mission is to show people that Jazz music isn't 'boring old people music' its hot, and fun, and full of life! We love seeing people of all ages enjoying our music and bringing people together.

Does your band consider itself an activist street band?

Yes

What do you think your band could contribute to a festival of activist street bands?

People aren't used to seeing young woman play this style of music. As an almost all female band, we try to inspire young woman and girls to chase their dreams and let nothing get in their way. We want to lead by example as strong women who are killer musicians that can hold their own. People also love to see women play a genre of music you would normally only see older men playing.

What activities have you participated in recently to support your community or causes that you care about?

Women's March
Black Lives Matter Rally
Playing for free for Pike Place Market fundraiser's so employees can have funds in case of emergencies

In what ways do you support diversity in your band?

We have men and woman from different background both regionally and religiously. We try to incorporate the roots of our music in our performances our Saxophone player Alex has regular tap dance solos during our shows. (Tap has its roots in jazz and blues) When hiring new members, the only this we care about is if you're a good musician!
