The Carnival Band

After seventeen years of playing music together the Carnie crew is an East Vancouver institution of good time Music, dance and creative performance. They are very excited to share their art with the people on the streets, at gatherings of protest, at family friendly community events, and late night dance parties. They have a back for bring people together no matter their differences!

Excited to share their music, the Carnival Band has released a brand new album of songs and poetry. BOMBASTIC was released in Dec 2017, and captures to new sound of the carnival band while maintaining their common theme of love.

What is your band’s mission?

Our mission is to fill the city with live, original music from around the world as a means to personal and political empowerment, creativity, and wellness.

Does your band consider itself an activist street band?

Yes

What do you think your band could contribute to a festival of activist street bands?

We can offer Music for all ages, in any type of community event. Also happy to host stages and be involved with workshops

What activities have you participated in recently to support your community or causes that you care about?

We host a weekly workshop at a community centre that is all inclusive and free to join. We also perform at protests, community events, and private events. We are a huge part of the Vancouver community.

In what ways do you support diversity in your band?

The band is open to anyone to join, helps folks acquire instruments, and hires local artists to host workshops. Members of the band range in ages of 10-80, with a mix of income levels and musical experience .
