Banda Rim Bam Bum

Band promo hi-res photo

Banda Rim Bam Bum is a group of musicians who give life to an instrumental ensemble of winds and percussions, in a sound journey that travels through diverse popular rhythms with a party and carnival flavor. Traditional rhythms of the Andean culture, the Latin American carnival and the fusion of Afro-Latin rhythms,is the inspiration of a musical mixture, which in a warm and colorful staging, narrows the relationship between musicians and spectators, as a vivid expression of celebrations with tints of urban carnival.

What is your band’s mission?

Bring the joy and colors of the Latin American carnival to each place where we play, involving the audience and trying to generate a symmetrical relationship among all. We seek to generate a moment of escape for all the pressures of daily life, with joy and carnival, enjoying the rhythms that come from the roots of our people.

Does your band consider itself an activist street band?

Yes

What do you think your band could contribute to a festival of activist street bands?

We can contribute with a great variety of Latin American rhythms, giving the possibility of knowing and enjoying them in the street, in popular sectors where there is not always the possibility of having free access to culture, democratizing art and taking it to all spaces without need to pay for it.

What activities have you participated in recently to support your community or causes that you care about?

We participate in a series of carnivals of populations or rites characteristic of our people, for example, the founding anniversary of some populations of workers, or the celebration of the winter solstice (of the south). Sometimes we attend street demonstrations of social causes, such as the right to education and the commemoration of women's day. We also created a community band called "rim bam bum block" where we invited volunteer musicians and dancers to play as a carnival comparsa.

In what ways do you support diversity in your band?

The band is composed of men and women without any discrimination other than motivation for music. In addition, in the "rim bam bum block" project, novices, experts, and people of all ages are invited to participate, only under the premise of will and companionship. We carry out didactic concerts in schools, family in parks, carnival celebrations and concerts in bars, reaching a great diversity of public.
