In addition to lantern-making for people of all ages in Hodgkins Park on Friday, October 11th, an additional workshop geared toward adults and kids over 10 years old. Designer/puppeteer David Lane of the New England Puppet Intensive will show how to create a reed and cloth lantern sculpture. Make a lantern! Bring it to the HONK! Lantern Parades on Friday, October 11th!
Suggested donation $5-20, sliding scale. No one turned away for lack of funds.

Join David Lane of the New England Puppet Intensive and create a reed and cloth lantern to use during HONK! Friday evening lantern parades. Natural reed is wet, and then bent into organic, abstract shapes, after which a skin of muslin is applied. LED lights are used to illuminate the sculpture which can be mounted on a bamboo handle. These lanterns are sturdy and you’ll want to bring them back year after year to march at HONK!
David is well known as a theatre artist in the Berkshires where he works as a director, sculptor, painter, and runs workshops in performance and design. He is the director of the Berkshire Lantern Walk, a summer time performance and community event at the Clark Art Institute. HIs explorations into abstract illuminated puppets have become the design aesthetics for Jack and the World’s End Water in Newfoundland, and Iinisikimm in Alberta, Canada.
