2016 Festival
The eleventh revolutionary street spectacle of never-before-seen proportions took place October 7-9th, 2016.
HONK! exhibits that were scattered around Davis Square:
Honk In Four
Designed and created by Patrick Johnson with the support of the Somerville Arts Council
Inside-Out Gallery, CVS storefront windows, 1 Davis Square
This piece attempts to capture the spectacle, energy, and beauty of the HONK! Festival. As a participant of the festival, everywhere you look there is something stunning and unique; a colorful costume that required hundreds of hours of work to produce, a crowd dancing and surging with the energy of brass music, a band with incredible choreography, and community groups marching in service of important causes. I found a single viewpoint was not enough to convey the overwhelming beauty of the experience, so I employed four screens to express the intensity of the festival. I could not be happier to exhibit this in the heart of Davis Square. Just as the Honk Festival aims to reclaim public space, it was important to display this work in a public space and provide a small taste of the Honk experience.
The installation was created by Patrick Johnson, a Somerville resident, and features imagery captured by Gabe Bornstein, Diego Perez, Geoffrey Cook, and Patrick Johnson. Many thanks to Heather Balchunas and the Somerville Arts Council.
HONK! at the Nave Gallery Annex
HONK! supporters from the Nave Gallery Annex, located at 53 Chester St. in Somerville, have sent out a “call for entries” (deadline September 17th) soliciting photographs taken during HONK!s past, to be included in their upcoming HONK! Deconstruction of Joy. The exhibit runs from October 6-31, with an art opening on Thursday October 6th from 6-8 pm. The exhibit is being organized by Leonardo March, a photojournalist hailing from Puerto Rico, who is now based in Boston. For further information:
