Through brass bells, the tendrils of their song creeps into a crowd, holding them in a pregnant stillness, before the circle dance erupts into a parade. A parade that might saunter through the hills of Serbia, through the streets of new Orleans, or by the brownstones of Brooklyn. Balkan brass band music is the center from which Veveritse’s melodies emanate, and their sound is glittered with all the places they have been and lived together. Their intimate understanding of Romany song and ornamentation twists through their daring arrangements, while their momentum pushes tradition into uncharted territory with original compositions. Underneath all of this, coming out through the seams of their horns, is the spirit of street music. When Veveritse appears, a dance is transformed into an unhinged celebration.
